Botanical Gin Foraging
This is a brilliantly fun way to learn about plants, especially as a group activity for a special occasion! In an event that lasts about 3 hours, I take you on a forage to find ingredients that can be used as a flavour or garnish, then we come back to base to play with an intriguing array of botanical herbs and tinctures. I also include a cocktail made using wild ingredients to get you into the swing of things (non-alcoholic cocktails are not a problem). You get to take home a 300ml jar of your own unique blend. Cost: £45 pp (min 4) (£65pp for bespoke session for 2 people)
Half day foraging
A forage is a slow-paced process, aimed at observation and information rather than mileage. During your walk you’ll be encouraged to observe, using all of your senses to guide you in finding and recognising the plants, fungi, trees and even the wildlife around us. Recognition of plants is a wonderfully sensory experience; squeezing and smelling leaves, running them between your fingers to get a sense of their juices and oils, and tasting such delights as nectar, are all part of the process. Sensory experiences are effective triggers for memory, and people are often surprised at what they recall. Cost: £45 pp up to 8 people, then £40 per additional person. 2 kids per adult go free.
Booking
Booking is super easy - email breconbeaconsforaging@gmail.com with which course you’re interested in, date and how many. Adele will respond with all the details and an invoice with details on how to make the payment. All courses must be paid for in advance.

Staying at Nantseren, you’ll notice the cycle of hill farming around you. A blackboard diary in the glamping barn will let you know what's happening during your stay on the farm and locally.
Early spring is lambing time, it's lovely to watch the lambs frolicking in surrounding fields, and you can help feed them too. Summer is the time for the local agricultural shows and harvesting. Autumn and Winter are the seasons for hedge laying, tree planting and dry stone walling. Hill farming involves regularly moving sheep from fields to common grazing land on the mountain - it's a process called hefting. Gathering is the job of bringing the sheep back to the pens and fields. And then the cycle begins again!
Learn some Welsh with a guided walk through our fields. Welsh names often tell a story - our farm is Nantrhodyn, which means stream by the kiln. Each field has a Welsh name, which goes back generations. In many places these are forgotten; here we use them everyday. The landscape, local culture and history come to life as you explore and learn.
There are lots of opportunities to learn some Welsh while staying here; we have bilingual information panels, leaflets and books in the barn - it's easy to learn a few phrases. The Welsh language is very much alive in Llanddeusant, give it a go!
nant = stream, brook
seren = star
