Nantseren is the perfect place for reconnecting with nature. The wild world is all around you - wake up to a magnificent dawn chorus, see wild ponies on the mountain and spot hares in the fields. Bring or borrow some binoculars - the Red Kite Feeding Station is on our farm, just up the road. Cook outdoors on a fire, and look up on a clear night at the Milky Way - we're in a Dark Sky Reserve. Experience the wild - relaxing by your tent or on an outdoor adventure!
We've teamed up with nearby Arc Adventures - they offer amazing activities like paddle boarding, climbing, caving, mountain biking and gorge walking. See more details here - call them on 01550 740452 to book - just let them know you are staying at Nantseren.
Staying at Nantseren, you’ll notice the cycle of hill farming around you. A farming diary in the glamping barn will let you know what's happening during your stay, both on the farm and locally. You can see what's on, and let us know if you’d like to get involved.
Early spring is lambing time, it's lovely to watch the lambs frolicking in surrounding fields, and you can help feed them too. Shearing time is May/June, with opportunities to watch or even have a go! Summer is the time for the local agricultural shows and harvesting. Autumn and Winter are the seasons for hedge laying, tree planting and dry stone walling.
Hill farming involves regularly moving sheep from fields to common grazing land on the mountain - it's a process called hefting. Gathering is the job of bringing the sheep back to the pens and fields.
Please get in touch for further details if your interested in any of the following:
Learn some Welsh with a guided walk through our fields. Welsh names often tell a story - our farm is Nantrhodyn, which means stream by the kiln. Each field has a Welsh name, which goes back generations. In many places these are forgotten; here we use them everyday. The landscape, local culture and history come to life as you explore and learn.
There are lots of other opportunities to learn some Welsh while staying here; we have bilingual information panels, leaflets and books in the barn - it's easy to learn a few phrases. The Welsh language is very much alive in Llanddeusant, give it a go! We are planning workshops and retreats for Welsh learners of all abilities - sign up to our newsletter or follow us on instagram.
Yoga, meditation and massage. Nantseren is a peaceful place, perfect for wellness retreats and yoga workshops - let us know if you'd like us to arrange for your group. And of course there’s our wild spa, for a unique sensual experience!
Try some bushcraft and forest activities - we have worksheets, equipment and ideas in the glamping barn. There are art materials and games to play - either indoors or out. Learn to map read and try some orienteering, go pond dipping, make a wand or go on a scavenger hunt. Kick a football, play some table tennis, or a good old- fashioned game of swing ball - there's space all around you.
See the Milky way, constellations, bright nebulas and even meteor showers on a clear night. In 2012, the Brecon Beacons became just the fifth destination in the world to be accredited as an International Dark Sky Reserve. We recommend the wood-fired hot tub for an amazing star gazing experience!
Theres plenty of birdwatching to do, even from your tent with the Red Kite Feeding Station up the road! Bring or borrow binoculars - we can show you special places on the farm to spot birds and wildlife.
We can arrange foraging and camp fire cooking events, or how about hedgerow cocktail making classes? See Food and celebrations .
There's equipment here for both kids and adults to get creative - it's a great place to slow down, observe and express yourself! We can also arrange art classes and workshops for all ages and abilities.
